August 18, 2021: Till the Well Runs Dry

Title spot this week goes to Miss T & The Mad Tubes (featuring Big Jay McNeely) – there are just a handful of YouTube videos that came up for them, but still some good ones, like this!

Also this week: Ella Fitzgerald and Muguette, back to back, along with Mat Najean Jazz Band, Hot Swing Sextet, Ultrafaux, Mamie Minch, Birch Pereira & the Gin Joints, and lots more. Enjoy!

May 12, 2021: Band(camp)ing Together

I heard a rumor that it might be the final Bandcamp Friday on May 7 so I went a little nuts! This rumor seems unfounded, though, based on posts from Bandcamp, where it looks like they may continue all the way through 2021. Or, at the very least, until live performances resume. Ah well, more music for me, anyway!

Among the new (to me) tunes include albums I didn’t already have from Tcha-Badjo, Blue Moon Marquee, and The Schwings Band, as well as new (to me) groups like Jacob Zimmerman, Thrift Set Orchestra, and Tatiana Eva-Marie.

And it all adds up to another great two hours of swing, jazz, and blues. Enjoy!

May 5, 2021: If You See My Mom

It doesn’t sound quite as cool when it’s not in French, I suppose. Still a classic, swinging tune from Sidney Bechet, written back in 1952, with lyrics by Jean Broussolle. I wasn’t able to track down a downloadable version of the jam I really wanted to play, but since this is the internet, right here, I can point you to a YouTube link!

So good.

As for the show itself, kicking off with a great instrumental version of said tune from the Midnight in Paris soundtrack, with Patrick Bartley on clarinet, and then playing another tune from Avalon Jazz Band (to kind of make up the difference) and then it’s a really, really good two hours of tunes this week.

No really, this show is killer, you should listen to it. Happy listening and happy dancing!

April 7, 2021: Get Out and Get Under the Moon

This brand new track by Leigh Barker off her album, Melbourne, is just one of the many new (and new to me) tracks featuring this week on the show. It was Bandcamp Friday last week, which means all proceeds there go directly to the artists, so I got about a dozen new albums to add to my collection, which just means more great music to share with you!

Thanks for listening!

March 10, 2021: Sunny with a Chance of Mixclouds

Alright, well it’s happened. I’m going to keep posting shows here, but with an embedded Mixcloud widget rather than uploading files directly to the site here and playing them through the built-in media player. I think it should continue to work just fine!?

Lots of new music to show off, and it’s almost 100% a Bandcamp (read: independent) artist show, which is the where I want to be, ultimately.

I want to very particularly give a shout out to Hey Mister Jesse and especially the new compilation album they just released. You can read all about it over on Yehoodi or get the compilation itself directly on Bandcamp. All proceeds from sale of the album will go to support the Black Lindy Hoppers Fund. Oh, and the dang thing has 41 AMAZING tracks on it. If you want one single album that has some of the best swing music on Bandcamp, this one is it.

Mixcloud player should be showing up just below here. Let me know how it works out for you in the comments, and feel free to go over to Mixcloud and follow my channel there too while you’re at it! Thanks and happy dancing!
